The Border Inspection Post of the Port of Vilagarcía (BIP) is a functional and modern building, which allows for the performance of inspection services for all types of merchandise. The BIP has four well-differentiated inspection areas, thanks to its modular construction on a single floor and with an area of 1,245 square metres. The external health, animal health and plant health modules have dual access to the unloading area for auxiliary personnel and inspectors. The fourth module is for SOIVRE inspection.
All agencies have their own inspection room and chambers to store the inspected merchandise. The building has four rooms, eight unloading docks with an annexed temperature controlled area, 3 freezing chambers, 3 refrigeration chambers and another 3 at room temperature.
There are four different types of accreditations for inspection facilities, all of them depending on the type of product to be inspected, and the Port of Vilagarcía BIP is authorised for all of them:
- BIP Border Inspection Post. For the inspection of live animals and products of animal origin, for human consumption and not for human consumption. EP Entry Points (EP) Products of non-animal origin for animal consumption are also inspected.
- ACA Authorised Customs Area For the inspection of products of a non-animal origin for human consumption. Guar Gum or food containing at least 10% Indian guar gum (Implementing Regulation (EU) 2015/175).
- Phyto-BIP Phytosanitary Border Inspection Post. For the inspection of products of plant origin, for human consumption and not for human consumption.
- DEP Designated Entry Point. For the inspection of products subject to special protection measures.
